The Homecoming Mum
October is a very thrilling month in Texas, not only because of Halloween, but also because of homecoming. Texan schools celebrate this day through a series of exciting events, including releasing school, early; holding local homecoming parades and annual homecoming football games. More specifically, they express their school spirit by wearing "mums."
Around the 1950's, Texan boys started the tradition of picking chrysanthemum blooms for their homecoming dates. Some were tied with a few ribbons. However, because "everything's bigger in Texas," over time, these simple mums were turned into lavish pieces- now artificial flowers, incorporating dozens of long ribbons, cow bells, stuffed animals and even LED lights. The incorporated colors normally represent the owner's school colors and are personalized for their interests. For example, a cheerleader most likely will own a mum with cheer ornaments while a volleyball player will probably own a mum that contains volleyball ornaments. In addition to the girls receiving mums from the boys, they now in turn give "garters" to the boys. Most often, a couple's mum and garter match in at least one way or another.
Because this tradition has grown to be so big in Texas, people have started taking advantage of the opportunity and turning it into a money-making opportunity. There are mum-making stores that sell hundreds of ribbons and ornaments that can be bought to make personalized mums. There are also professional mum-makers who sell their creations. These can be bought anywhere from $60-$300.

My school's colors are white and blue. However, because our school is a public charter school, we traditionally incorporate the public schools' colors- white and green. Additionally, as a senior, my mum incorporated a lot of white, as well.

Prom 2014
I am so blessed to be able to say that I had a wonderful prom experience in every aspect! From being a part of my school's prom committee; to planning and preparing for the special day, with my friends; to having a wonderful friend as my prom escort; to spending the evening with a great group of friends, alongside my escort, I treasure the many great memories that have been made, regarding prom.
I was so excited to have the honor and privilege of borrowing this dress from a dear friend of mine! We had a lot of fun trying on different special event dresses, but I was most excited when I tried on this dress because after seeing it on me, I knew, right away that it was the right one!
I was really excited to find these heels! About a month before prom, I went shopping to buy all of my accessories. I walked into Famous Footwear and was back out in about fifteen minutes with these in my hand! This was the first pair of heels that I tried on and they were found on the clearance rack! Enough said!
I found this creative idea on Pinterest.... It is one of my favorite creative photo sessions!
I had a more difficult time choosing my clutch. Although, I am really happy with what I ended up buying! As for the shawl, I was really excited to have found this in amongst my scarves and other shawls. It matched perfectly!
I love this necklace! I call it my "special occasion necklace" because I originally bought it for another special occasion, a year ago and still like to save it mostly for special events.
Here are close-ups on my corsage and his boutonniere....

Love has won, Death has lost.

True Love Waits
In today's society, a girl's purity is not often treasured. However, girls who do decide to stay pure for their wedding day have something great to give to their new husband!
I believe that one of the most important decisions that I have made in my life, was to promise to stay pure for my future marriage. I made this promise on my 12th birthday to God, my parents and whoever is my future husband. On my 16th birthday, my parents gave me a purity ring to signify and remind me of my promise.
You may be asking why I made this decision and why I hold the idea so highly. As a Christian, I believe that fleeing from sexual immorality is a commandment given by God. Therefore, it is important to me that I obey this commandment.
What can a person get out of keeping this promise? They can have a healthy body and a peace of mind, knowing that when they go into marriage, they will not have regrets, concerning their purity. God has given intimacy between a husband and a wife as a gift. It should not be taken for granted and misused, but, instead held as a treasure.
"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." ~Philippians 4:8 ESV
This weekend, as you celebrate the wonderful holiday of Valentine's Day, showing love toward others, I encourage you to seriously consider your choices and choose wise decisions. Happy Valentine's Day and may God bless you!

"Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body." ~1 Corinthians 6:18 ESV
"For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God;..." ~1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 ESV
"Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled...." ~Hebrews 13:4 ESV
If you have already made the decision to give away your purity, outside of marriage, God is a gracious and loving God and giver of forgiveness! If you want forgiveness, ask Him to forgive you and He will!
If you are not in a relationship, remember that Valentine's Day is a popular holiday intended as a time to show love to others, of all relationship types- family, friends, co-workers, etc.
"Love one another with brotherly affection. Out do one another in showing honor." ~Romans 12:10 ESV
If you are interested in learning more about keeping your purity, I encourage you to read the Bible and Christian books about this topic. You can start by clicking HERE to look at Bibles and HERE to view "And the Bride Wore White" by Dannah Gresh for young women. (I personally read this book and loved it! It is fun, challenging and encouraging!)
